We’d like to highlight a recent project that will help you gain a clearer picture of the type of work you can expect to receive when you partner with our team for your kitchen remodel. For the Lakeside Kitchen project, we worked with a talented team that delivered amazing results for our client.
Client Goals
During the initial phase of our process, we discuss our client’s goals to ensure our remodel plan aligns with their vision.
For the Lakeside Kitchen project, the client’s goals were to make a more inviting floor plan. To accomplish this, they met with an architect and contractor to come up with the plan to move their primary bedroom and bathroom to the opposite end of the home and create a suite in what was previously the sunroom and dining room.
Planning Phase of this Kitchen Remodel Project
The success of every kitchen remodel project depends on detailed planning to ensure we create a customized kitchen design that makes the best possible use of the space. A project of this size requires a talented team with a varied skillset. Our kitchen and bath designer, Allison Mahieu worked with Shane and Joe of Infinity Builders. An architect, Jeff Daigle, was also enlisted on this project to bring dreams to reality for this homeowner.
With the architect’s plans in hand, Allison began the process of discussing the important items the homeowners were lacking in the current kitchen and what they wanted to incorporate in the new space:
- The homeowner bakes quite a bit and wanted a dedicated large space to work
- She also wanted a more functional pantry for storing her large pots and countertop appliances
All the appliances from the previous kitchen would be kept and used in the new design, and having exact measurements was crucial because the hood and stove were not going to move. Allison also talked to the client about her style and color choices. During her first meeting with our team, the homeowner worked with Allison to put together a color pallet. Allison made suggestions based on the inspiration photos provided by the client.
Customized Solutions
At Sander & Sons, we take a customized approach to every kitchen remodel project. No two kitchens have the same spatial layout, and no two clients have identical goals. Doing the job right requires solutions that are tailored to the client’s functional and aesthetic needs for their kitchen while making the best possible use of the available space.
In this design, we developed a series of customized solutions to address:
- Utensil storage
- Cookie sheet storage
- Hidden coffee pot with pocket door
- Spice drawers
- A mixer stand pop up
- A charging station in a drawer near the mail drop space
In addition, a kitchen table constructed by the homeowner was modified to be able to be used as the new kitchen island. The Kitchen cabinetry used for this project was Woodharbor Inset-Augusta (Cascade White, Black and Cherry-Cinamon). The primary cabinetry was RiverRun- Cambridge- White, and the laundry cabinetry was RiverRun in Pewter.
Challenges
Challenges are an inevitable part of any kitchen remodel project. Even with the most careful planning, there are going to be unexpected issues that arise once the project gets going. The good news is our team has over 25 years of experience, and we’ve encountered a wide range of challenges during this time. This perspective allows us to get innovative and create solutions that will ensure the final results align with the homeowner’s goals, regardless of the unexpected issues that come up during the project.
The budget was the biggest challenge for this project. Due to the increased cost of their construction budget, we were asked to reduce the price significantly.
To meet the client’s goals, we selected the RiverRun brand for the bathrooms and laundry, focusing on a door style and color that would give a seamless look with the kitchen.
Results
The results on this remodel were remarkable. There is a very warm and cohesive feel to this design, which matches the hospitality and grace of the homeowners. We were thankful to work with a great team on this project and to achieve the client’s vision for their home.
